Audiences Receive A Little More Night Music
Extension for Trevor Nunn’s Revival of Sondheim’s Classic
The current production of A Little Night Music, currently running at the Garrick Theatre, will have its booking period extended to Saturday 5th September 2009.
The show, which originated at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2008, is set for an upcoming Broadway transfer and has been running strong at its current home – much like its cousin “La Cage Aux Folles”, which is also a graduate of the Menier.
Speaking of the extension, David Babani, Artistic Director of the Menier said, “It is with great excitement that we are able to announce further London performances of Trevor Nunn’s Chocolate Factory production of A Little Night Music.

Since its original opening in December last year, the production has played to packed houses both at the Chocolate Factory and the Garrick theatre, and discussions are currently underway for a Broadway production to open later this year.”
The show was originally only booking until the much earlier date of Saturday 25th July 2009, however the mentioned packed houses, coupled with critical acclaim and a star cast has allowed the further performances, nearing an extra 50 in total.
A Little Night Music is Stephen Sondheim’s story set in Sweden in the 19th century and concerns four separate couples and the way in which their lives become entangled during the course of one specific weekend when they stay at a country house. The musical was originally written in 1973 and as well as Sondheim’s backing, it also features the music of Hugh Wheeler.
Amongst the actors appearing in the show are Hannah Waddingham and Maureen Lipman, starring alongside Alexander Hanson, Kelly Price and Jessie Buckley.
Hannah Waddingham’s previous credits include “Tonight’s The Night” at the Victoria Palace Theatre, “Monty Python’s Spamalot”, “Lautrec” at the Shaftesbury Theatre and “The Beautiful Game” at the Cambridge Theatre. However, she also has a string of film credits, including starring opposite Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst and Jeff Bridges in “How To Lose Friend And Alienate People” and “Note”.
Meanwhile, Maureen Lipman has had a range of credits to her name and has spend many years working in West End plays, including working with Laurence Olivier’s Company and appearing in the likes of “Oklahoma!” and “Candida”.
A Little Night Music is at the Garrick Theatre, where it is currently booking to Saturday 5th September 2009.
